How do you get more customers for your startup when you don’t have any money to spend on marketing?
That’s the ultimate question…
… and I have the answer.
A few years ago I gave a keynote on The Art & Science of Growth Hacking where I shared my framework for generating BIG growth out of tiny budgets.
And it came down to just two key strategies:
1. Shareable Moments
2. Other People’s Networks (OPN)
That’s what I cover in depth in this week’s video.
Here’s the way I think about them.
Shareable Moments are opportunities you have in your product to ask your users to share something with their friends or colleagues, which in turn introduces them to your product. (Ex: Invoicing in Freshbooks)
Other People’s Networks is a strategy to take something your product generates, and embeds it into another communities site (ex: Airbnb.com listings on Craigslist)
We relied heavily on these strategies to grow Clarity.
The challenge comes down to the implementation and how and when you present the opportunities to your users that will have the highest likelihood of them taking action.
Many marketing activities are simple to understand but more nuanced to implement.
These definitely land in that category.
My suggestion is to do an audit of the actions (events) you have in your product, and ask if there’s a way to introduce one of these strategies at that moment.
Hope you enjoy these advanced strategies for growth!
